Chemical Analysis (OES)

Chemical testing of metals is essential for understanding the complete makeup of your products, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance.

Obtaining the desired chemical properties is of great importance for any manufacturer. The technique we use is known as Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES.) This involves exposing the sample to an electrical spark and measuring the different wavelengths of the light that are emitted. From that data, we can determine the proportion of elements that are present.

Our equipment includes a brand-new state of the art SPECTROMAX OES machine with chemical analysis software fitted with an extra small parts program which enables us to test the smallest of products.

Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis

Our testing methods include both qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis:

  • Qualitative Analysis: Identifies the compounds and elements present in your material.
  • Quantitative Analysis: Measures the quantity of different substances within your material.

This dual approach provides a comprehensive understanding of your metal samples. For example, we can determine the carbon content in a steel sample or the nickel content in your material.

Why Chemical Testing Matters

Achieving the desired mechanical, corrosion, and physical properties is crucial for manufacturers. Our chemical testing services help ensure your products meet these critical requirements, enhancing their performance and durability.

Materials We Test

We offer testing for a wide range of materials, including:

  • Steels: Plain Carbon, Low Alloy Steels, Stainless, Duplex / Super Duplex, Boron steel
  • Alloys: Aluminium* Alloys, Nickel Alloys, Copper Alloys, Alloy 625 / 718 / 825
  • Others: Monels, Inconels

*Not currently in our UKAS accreditation

Our detailed analysis provides valuable insights into the properties and characteristics of these materials, ensuring they are fit for their intended applications.
