Izod Impact Testing
The Izod Impact test, similar to the Charpy Impact test, is a method used to measure the energy immersed by the notched sample when it is struck by a pendulum. It is widely utilised for assessing the impact strength of materials.
In the Izod impact test, the sample is positioned vertically and impacted at ambient temperature. A pivoting arm is raised to a specified height and then released, allowing it to swing down and strike the notched specimen, which results in the sample breaking. The energy absorbed in the process is measured and used to evaluate the material’s impact capabilities.
This test is highly valuable for determining the relative toughness or impact durability of materials. It is both fast and cost-effective, making it particularly suitable for quality control purposes.
At our facility, we perform Izod Impact testing in accordance with BS 131: Part 1.
